Regulator fines Surestream £160,000

02 August 2022

The PSA has fined Surestream Digital Limited £160,000 for breaches of its Code of Practice. Surestream ran a lottery results alert service that charged consumers £1.75 for text messages that detailed winning lottery numbers after each draw. 198 consumers complained to the PSA.

The PSA Tribunal found that Surestream had been in breach of Code 14 Pricing and Transparency rules; the service pricing was determined to be unclear to consumers and the sign-up process was deemed misleading.

The PSA Tribunal issued a fine, required Surestream to remedy issues with the service, seek compliance advice, and offer refunds to eligible consumers.

Users of the service can now claim a refund from Surestream.
